Avengers: Endgame was the end of an era for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It was the culmination of 21 movies leading up to it, over almost 10 years. Many fans grew up with the Infinity Saga, making Endgame an even more momentous. It’s also the last time we had an Avenger movie. That was in 2019, just a year after Avengers: Infinity War. And now, finally, we have the fifth Avenger movie, Doomsday, coming out in December 2026. But before we get the new movie, Marvel released new Avenger: Endgame scenes as part of a special Encore re-release to hype Doomsday.
However, Disney might have had another goal in mind when releasing Avengers: Endgame. When it originally debuted, it burst past all records and became the number one worldwide box office hit of all time. That is, until Avatar was re-released and reclaimed the top spot. But will the encore even help it overcome Avatar? It might have, except that Box Office Mojo, the leading site to track box office stats, is listing it as a separate movie despite also classifying it as a re-release. Nonetheless, it was nice to see it on the big screen again; though, depending on which big screen you saw it on, you might have gotten an even bigger movie.
Spoilers Below!
The First Of The New Avengers: Endgame Scenes Significantly Changes The End Of The Movie

Avengers: Endgame ended on a sweet image, but the new ending presented in Encore changes this drastically. Originally, after Steve went through time to put all of the infinity stones back in their rightful place in the timeline, he decided not to go back to the present. Instead stayed in the past and started a life with Peggy Carter. The final scene in the original movie has Steve and Peggy slow dancing to “It’s Been a Long Long Time,” by Harry James and Kitty Kallen. This also played through the beginning of the credits.
Of all the new scenes in Avengers: Endgame, this is the biggest change. Instead of playing them off into a happy ending, the new scene sets up a conflict. In it, as they are dancing, there’s a knock at the door. Peggy goes to answer it as Steve hides behind a wall. Peggy asks this mystery person if she can help them. In comes Loki, saying he can help “both of them,” knowing Steve is hiding. But how will Loki help them? That is unknown. However, this is clearly from when Loki was an agent of the TVA, before he became the god of the multiverse. So, when exactly in the show Loki this takes place is also unclear. When did Loki have the time for a side quest? Hopefully Doomsday will clear this up. Or maybe Loki is causing an incursion.
Hulk Gets A Very Special Visitor

When we last saw Bruce Banner, he was back to his raging alter ego, Hulk, in Spider-Man: Breand New Day. Spider-Man fought him until he finally got Hulk to forfeit even though he could have, and seemed like he would, crush Peter Parker with his bare hand. The fight, also including the Punisher, is now one of the best scenes in the MCU.
In the new scene for Endgame, we pick up where Bruce was left off in BND. He’s in a bunker two miles underground, recording a video. He notes that he hasn’t had an incident in over a decade, and then goes to show his new supression research. While he’s trying to do that, the camera starts glitching. We hear Doctor Doom off screen saying “Mister Banner, I’ve come to collect you.” The screen goes dark and when it returns, Bruce is gone and there are glowing green marks on the floor.
While exciting, of the new Avengers: Endgame scenes, it doesn’t work well in the context of the movie. In Endgame, Banner was able to combine himself with the Hulk into, as the comics call him, Professor Hulk. We don’t see him turn back to Bruce Banner and the movie suggests that he’s stuck that way. It wasn’t until Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings that we saw him as regular Bruce Banner again. The new scene might have been meant for BND, but was saved for Avenger: Endgame Encore. It should have been with BND, though. But it is good to know that Hulk will be in Doomsday.
The TVA Is The Best Of the New Avengers: Endgame Scenes

One of the best post-Infinity Saga projects was Loki, following a variant of the God of Mischief as he helps the TVA (Time Variance Authority) prevent catastrophe. The show ends with him becoming the God of Stories, holding the multiverse together, on a thronse, alone. The TVA’s mission went from preserving the “sacred timeline,” which were the events of the Infinity Saga, to keeping the multiverse together and preventing incursions.
Of the new scenes in Avengers: Endgame, this one sets up Avengers: Doomsday the most. We know that Doom will be after control of the multiverse and will be the main villain in not just Doomsday but also in Secret Wars. In the 2015 Marvel Comics event of the same name, Doctor Doom took control of the multiverse and made it into one dystopia by combining different universes together. In the new scene, we get the return of Owen Wilson’s Mobius M Mobius and Ke Huy Quan’s Ouroboros. What starts as a regular workday quickly dismantles as thousands of universes start to collide. The scene ends with Ouroboros saying “the multiverse is collapsing.”
Just one problem with this scene: it’s not on every Encore screening. It’s only available when you see it in a premium format like Disney’s new “Infinity Vision.” So, to see it, you have to pay a bit extra.
Doctor Doom Makes A Brief Appearence At The End of Avengers: Endgame Encore.

Originally, unlike Avengers: Infinity War, Endgame had no credit scenes, but now it has three new scenes and a new ending. However, there was one little easter egg at the end of the original movie: we hear the clanking sound of Tony Stark making his first suit in 2008’s Iron Man. It was one last emotional tug at the end of a very emotional movie. Our last little bit of Iron Man. But now? Well, Marvel Studios changed it drastically.
Instead of just the metal clanging, we now get a new scene, though very brief and vague. Instead of Tony Stark making his armor, we get flashes of Doctor Doom making his mask over the metallic hammering sounds. In a way, it almost feels like the Russos are disrespecting the legacy that began with Iron Man and ended with his death. By changing the sounds to fit Doomsday, they are doing away with that definitive ending just to shoehorn in a Doomsday reference.
Were The New Scenes Worth It?

While the new Avengers: Endgame scenes did a lot to build hype for Doomsday, they probably weren’t needed. The ending with Steve, Peggy, and Loki would have served better to start Doomsday, which it probably still will. As said before, the new scene with Bruce Banner and Doctor Doom should have been in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. In fact, it would have reached an even bigger audience if it had. And the final scene with Doctor Doom making his helmet undercut the original intent of that faint clanking sound.
The only scene that feels justified is the TVA scene, but again, that scene only came with premium screens. Hopefully, these scenes will only be added to the theatrical re-release and Disney won’t change Avengers: Endgame on Disney+ or other digital platforms. Or they could make Encore a separate feature. More than likely, Disney will eventually make these scenes available online the way they made the original four teasers of Doomsday online. With three months to go before Doomsday releases, we should see a bit more for Doomsday.
